BOOKABLE WITH POINTS: Virgin Atlantic Flights To Tel Aviv, Israel

virgin atlantic flights

A couple of weeks ago Virgin Atlantic confirmed flights to Tel Aviv, Israel from London Heathrow starting later this year. This new route puts them in direct competition with both British Airways (operating a Boeing 777) and EL AL (operating a Boeing 787) who currently have two flights per day, making this the fifth daily direct flight to Tel Aviv. These Virgin Atlantic flights to Tel Aviv are now bookable with Virgin Flying Club miles.

From 25th September 2019, Virgin Atlantic will operate an Airbus A330-300 from London Heathrow to Ben Gurion Airport Tel Aviv, Israel for the route. Flights are set to go on sale from 25th February. With this aircraft being in the traditional Virgin Atlantic long haul configuration it offers 31 business class seats in Upper Class, 48 in premium economy, and 185 in economy. This comes to a total of almost 200,000 seats a year between London and Tel Aviv.

When flights were announced on the new Tel Aviv route Flying Club availability was not loaded, meaning that no information was available about Flying Club miles redemption rates. Speculation was based on the Dubai redemption, which is a longer distance and priced at 10,000 miles in economy, 17,500 miles in premium economy and 37,500 miles in Upper Class one-way. Virgin Atlantic have now confirmed that redemptions will be cheaper than the Dubai route.

Virgin Atlantic flights to Tel Aviv cost the following when redeeming Virgin Flying Club miles:

Standard season

Economy Premium Upper Class
One-way 9000 16000 28000
Return 18000 32000 56000

Peak season

If you are planning on travelling with an infant (who for Virgin Atlantic need to be under 2 years old at the time of travel), then you will pay 1,000 miles in economy, 2,000 miles in premium economy and 2,000 miles in Upper Class one-way. These are bargain rates and are regardless of route.

Standard season and peak season travel dates for 2019, and early 2020, are as follows:

Standard season

  • 7th January 2019 – 3rd April 2019
  • 23rd April 2019 – 21st June 2019
  • 9th September 2019 – 12th December 2019

  • 13th December 2019 – 31st December 2019
  • 1st January 2020 – 6th January 2020

The strange thing about Virgin Atlantic standard and peak dates is that this is a blanket approach across all destinations – no seasonality it taken into consideration. Depending on where you are planning to go, such as the Barbados route with Virgin, then are peak season this is priced at a standard redemption rate. Also for those outside of the UK, where schools do not have the same term patterns, you might be able to find standard redemption rates.
