REMINDER: Supercard Officially Closed Tomorrow

It’s now been 2 months since Travelex announced the closure of Supercard. The card which was their most innovative travel product, bragged 0% transaction fees for overseas purchases, and will be closed down entirely on 24th July 2017. Travelex previously stated that “unfortunately, the costs of running Supercard and delivering the standards of service we expect have been much higher than anticipated. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw Supercard from the UK market”. Supercard officially closed – do you have an alternative travel card?

As a reminder you will no longer be able to use the Supercard for transactions from 24th July 2017 but will be able to view past transactions in the Supercard app until 24th October 2017.

Supercard Alternative?

If you are looking for an alternative to Supercard that operates in a similar way (a card that requires no top up prior to use) then the Curve card would be an ideal replacement.

The concept of the Curve card is essentially the same as the Supercard. Curve market their piece of plastic as an ‘all in one’ card that lets you carry one card in your wallet/purse instead of many. Your existing debit and credit cards can all be linked to your Curve card, after which you can then use your Curve card to spend almost anywhere around the globe. One of the recently added benefits that was not available with the Supercard is that when you spend on the Curve card you can earn rewards. The rewards scheme, named Curve Rewards, allows you to earn points at specific retailers. After collecting only a few points you can then exchange Curve Rewards points to purchase items for free. The great part is that you can spend Curve Rewards points with PayPal, Amazon, direct on retailers websites, or in-store.

Their mobile app has been totally overhauled in the past month, and a bundle of great features have been added allowing you to view your spending and reward points much easier. If you don’t have a Curve Card then you can signup for free (and also receive £5 free credit). Read up on all the benefits of the card (original article: Curve Card and Curve Rewards Guide).
