REVIEW: Sheraton Poznan Hotel

Starwood properties in Poland are a little sparse. There are a total of 7 comprised of 4 Sheraton properties, 1 Westin property and 2 Design Hotels. In the city of Poznan, Poland you are limited to just one, the Sheraton Poznan Hotel. This hotel is located around 10 minutes from the airport in a taxi, and around the same from the city centre of Poznan. The Sheraton Poznan is a city hotel, with a few nice comforts, certainly not as comfortable as the Sheraton Fuerteventura Resort. Having stayed at the Polish hotel a little while ago here is the Sheraton Poznan Hotel Review – a property perfect for exploring Poznan, Poland.

The easiest and quickest option to get from the airport directly to the hotel is to take a taxi. The city of Poznan, though quite small, has Uber which you can order from the airport. The cost of the 5 miles journey is a couple of pounds at most. It is one of the cheapest city I have visited to use Uber. If you still haven’t tried Uber you can get £10 free credit if you’re a new Uber user. The other option to jump on the bus (Line 59) which stops meters away from the hotel.

Check in at the hotel was quick, and so it should be at midnight. The receptionist called over the Manager who gave us a personal greeting, thanked us for choosing the Sheraton Poznan and the SPG Gold status, and walked us up the lounge. The lounge was closed at this time, but he opened the door and welcomed us in, mentioning that we could help ourselves to any drinks. He then left after handing over our room keys. What a great welcome!

Those who know about SPG and their hotel loyalty scheme will note that the Gold status does not allow lounge access. That is for reserved for Platinum status only. But there is an easy way to get yourself in there, even if you don’t have the required status.

Firstly, this booking was for 2 nights. The first night was booked as cash at a rate of around £80 for a Club room. Club rooms come with guaranteed lounge access. The second night was booked as a redemption into a standard room for a mere 3,000 due to it being a weekend night (weekday nights are 4,000 points per night). The hotel on check in noticed there were separate bookings for each night, and as we had booked into the Club room on the first night extended this and the lounge access for the second night. This is a clever trick, and though it has worked for me 100% of the time, is not guaranteed. I doubt that the hotel would request for you to move rooms for the second night, but they could revoke the lounge access.

The allocated Club Room was on the 6th floor which was a great size. The hotel has many facilities including large restaurant and bar, full sized gym and even a swimming pool – not bad for a city hotel.

Overall it was a great stay, only costing £80 for the first night, and 3,000 points for the second. Both nights were in a Club Room, despite only booking a standard room for the redemption night, and both nights allowed for lounge access.
