The recent merger of Starwood and Marriott hotels completed a couple of months ago, and has now created the world’s largest hotel portfolio. The hotel group now have in excess of 5,700 properties, in over 110 countries, trading as 30 different hotel brands, creating a total of 1.1 million guest rooms. Starpoints, the currency of the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) loyalty scheme can now be instantly transferred into Marriott Rewards, and vice-versa. Starwood are now offering a 50% discount purchasing hotel points, which can be used to redeem free nights at Starwood properties, or even Marriott properties if you purchase and then transfer points.
Between now and 31st December 2016 Starwood are offering a targeted discount of between 25% and 50% when purchasing Starpoints (my own targeted discount was 35%). You can easily check what bonus you have been targeted for by logging in to your SPG account. The discount is displayed before making a purchase of SPG points. To qualify for the targeted discount of up to 50% you need to purchase at least 5,000 SPG Starpoints.

The Starwood up to 50% discount promotion runs until the end of the year and is the most generous bonus points promotion in a long while. During the promotion you can purchase up to 30,000 Starwood Starpoints. If you qualify the the full 50% discount these will be available to purchase for $575 (around £460). Starpoints can be used to redeem a free hotel night, or as a points and cash redemption. If you are a few points short of a redemption then now is the time buy into the Starwood loyalty scheme.
