Stop IHG Points Expiring + 1000 FREE Points

IHG brands cover the full spectrum of hotel brands, from budget right through to high end (Holiday Inn, Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza etc) and historically points gained and added to your IHG Rewards Club account had no expiry date. Last year, that all changed and now your IHG points will “expire after 12 months… for members who neither earn nor redeem during this time“. In short this means that you need to have a plan in place to stop IHG points expiring if you are approaching this date.

Crucially, it’s worth mentioning that you do not need to stay at their hotels to stop your points expiring. One of the easiest ways to stop your existing points expiring is by earning more points before you go over 12 months of no activity on your account. To do this you could purchase a minimal amount of IHG points, or transfer points from a Virgin Atlantic Flying Club account if you have miles spare (you can even transfer from your Tesco Clubcard, to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles, and then transfer these into IHG points).

1,000 Free IHG Points

IHG and Opinion Check-In, a survey company, have recently partnered. To launch the partnership they are offering all IHG Rewards Club members the chance to earn 1,000 IHG Rewards Club points by joining, and then completing a survey. The bonus points are only earned when completing your first survey, though additional surveys will continue to earn further points. The added benefit is that that points are instantly deposited directly into your IHG Rewards Club account.

To grab to 1,000 free IHG points you need to join and complete your first survey on the Opinion Check-In site. The points earned through the survey will stop IHG points expiring, and reset the timer for another 12 months.
